Subjects of the day's workshop:
Chromebooks 101
Google Drive
Prerequisite Knowledge:
Participants must have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer/laptop and of what Google Drive is. Learners must also be familiar with the county curriculum for whatever grade(s) they work with.
Content:
This workshop will contain two separate training sessions in the day. The first will involve gaining a solid understanding of Chromebooks and their basic functions and operations. The second training will be about Google Drive. Here, participants will explore Google Drive and locate where Google Drive is on their Chromebook in the apps and/or shortcuts. Participants will also learn how to access Google Drive and will learn the basic functions for how to operate it.
Then for the intermediate/ advanced participants, or other beginner participants who are ready to move on to the next stage, they will dig deeper and learn how to create folders in Google Drive. They will learn how to share files or add other people to collaboratively edit and create different document works.
Objectives:
How will this workshop be taught?
This workshop will be taught using multiple teaching strategies and tools, including collaborative discussion with the instructor/facilitator and peers, instructional videos, hands-on practice with instructor modeling, and time allotted for learners to explore Google Drive and develop their own real-life application. Learners will be introduced to the objectives for each respective course in the day’s trainings so they will know the goals and intended outcomes. Then, for the first course, the instructor will use multimedia tools to introduce Chromebooks to the audience to help explain the functions and various uses of a Chromebook. Learners will discuss how they have been using Chromebooks or how they imagine they could use them.
For the second course, learners will also participate in peer discussion about Google Drive, discussing specific points of what Google Drive is, what you can use it for, and brainstorm possible benefits of using Google Drive in teaching and education in general. Learners will also view a video describing the functions of Google Drive. Then, the instructor will lead the learners through Google Drive to explore the different aspects of it themselves and then the learners will be taught how to create a folder in Google Drive. Learners will share it with a colleague in the training to see the immediate effects. Towards the end of the course, learners will be given time to explore and create folders in Google Drive that may specifically relate to their individual positions.
Materials:
