Subjects of the day's workshop:
Promethean Boards and ActivInspire software (Beginner and Intermediate/ Advanced)
Prerequisite Knowledge:
Participants must have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer/laptop and how to operate a Promethean board. Learners must also be familiar with the county curriculum for whatever grade(s) they work with.
Content:
This training day will be divided into two sessions. Part A will involve the beginner elements and learners will learn the basic functions of the Promethean board and how to use and navigate the accompanying software, ActivInspire. Part B will involve the intermediate/ advanced participants and other beginning learners who are prepared to continue learning more complex functions. They will learn how to use and implement more advanced functions of the accompanying Promethean software ActivInspire to add media elements, graphics, audio, and other features to their flipcharts to create quality digital resources for enhanced student learning.
Objectives:
How will this workshop be taught?
This workshop will use the ActivInspire software for both sessions. For Part A, the instructor will introduce the basic elements of ActivInspire to the learners in an interactive lecture. Learners will each be able to take a turn using the Promethean pen and touch screen elements to explore the actual Promethean board and the software program. The instructor will also show where to find various features that may be used commonly in flipcharts and demonstrate how to add them. Then, learners will use their own Chromebooks and ActivInspire to collaboratively create a flipchart with partners or groups based on content area or grade level. Learners will create a basic flipchart with at least 5 slides that must contain typed text, at least 1 graphic, and written text with the pen/mouse.
For Part B, learners will either return from Part A or be new to the training. In this session, the instructor will lead the participants through a more detailed and interactive exploration of different ActivInspire features that may enhance the learning of students or be helpful tools to include in flipcharts or use at any given time. Learners will discuss together how adding different elements into their flipcharts could help or hinder student learning, and which specific elements they might use in flipcharts personally. Learners will also analyze several example flipcharts in pairs to determine what aspects of the flipcharts are effective and what parts should be changed or removed. Part B learners will either add to a previously created flipchart, or create a new one, that relates to their curriculum content.
Materials:
- Google Chromebooks (1:1)
- Promethean Board connected to Chromebook or Desktop
- ActivInspire software on all Chromebooks
